Psalm 3: The Lord is Our Shield

(8 verses, 0:43 to read)

What I am about to READ
  • The prayer of David as he flees from his son Absalom.

  • Like most Psalms, this Psalm is a prayer in trouble, in distress, a cry to the Lord to help protect us from our enemies.
  • The chief image of the Psalm is “shield”, “You, O Lord, are a shield about me.” The Lord protects us from all the assaults of the devil and wicked men, as a shield that quenches all the fiery darts aimed at us.

  • This is a beautiful Psalm to pray in the morning. As we awake we are praying that the Lord would also “Arise” and save us (3:7).
