Ezra 1: The Exiles Return

(11 verses, 2:15 to read)

What I am about to READ

1-4: Cyrus probably had his own reasons for releasing Israel, but here we see how God uses even heathen kings to accomplish His will.

5-11: Plans are made to build the temple Jerusalem. Many valuable gifts and offerings are brought for the service in the temple. King Cyrus even returned the sacred temple vessels. This was a special blessing of God’s grace.

It’s amazing to hear everything that the Lord is doing for His people. Note the willing response to God’s mercy by those “whose spirit God had raised” (v. 5).  This response is our response as well. A person who has received the Lord’s mercy, has been forgiven all their sins, and is a new creation in Christ Jesus can’t help but have such a response. The redeemed person willingly praises God in any way they can. We pray that God would guard and keep us, that we continue to willingly respond to His abundant mercy and favor in Jesus Christ.
