Psalm 125—Those who trust in the Lord are immovable

(5 verses, :30 to read)

What I am about to READ

  • Jesus says in John 6 (today’s Gospel reading), “Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him” (6:56). He who trusts in the Lord, discerning His flesh and blood, abides in the Lord and the Lord in him.

  • Verses 1-3 use geographical images to convey God’s faithfulness and the Christian’s protection.
  • Verses 4-5 implore God to act as He has promised (cf. Psalm 1).

  • What God has established is immovable.
  • God grants repentance and faith.
  • Though you sin and doubt and at times despair, that does not mean that God has abandoned you.
  • What God has established is immovable.
  • Believe that Jesus is the Christ the Son of God, that you may have life in His name. For the Lord surrounds His people, as the mountains surround Jerusalem, from this time forth and forevermore.

  • Let us pray: Merciful Father, You are our help in every need, especially in the hour of our temptation. Continue to provide protection and a firm foundation for us in your Word. Help and guard us from the flaming arrows of the evil one, and grant us always the gift of repentance. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
