What I am about to READ
Psalm 92 is a song of praise to the creator who works salvation with mighty works, which the wicked do not understand.
MARK and LEARN
Vss 1 and 2 find a place in the prayer office of Compline, where one prays that it is indeed good to sing praises to the Most High, and to declare His truth at the close of the day.
Vs 4 declares that the works of the Lord are the cause of gladness for the psalmist. God’s works, which we cannot always comprehend (and frequently don’t) are always a cause for joy and gladness for those who love Him for we know that His will is always best.
The righteous will flourish like a palm tree according to vs. 12, but that righteousness does not come from us, but from the mighty works that the psalmist has already been speaking about. As a tree in the oasis of a desert is a source of life and joy, so is he who is planted by the Lord is to his neighbors.
Lord Jesus, you know that I love you. You have worked your mighty deeds in my life for which I thank you. But there are many things that I do not understand. I still feel the root of unbelief and sin dwelling within me at war with the new man you have created. Continue to work on me. Come to me with your Holy Word and declare me a sinner in need of your righteousness, that I may declare your love in the morning and your truth at the close of the day. Amen.
