Psalm 139: There’s No Escape from God!

(24 verses, 2:20 to read)

What I am about to READ

A psalm of David praising the intimate knowledge of the Lord.

1-6: The knows us intimately, He knows ALL our ways.

7: The Holy Spirit is mentioned!

7-9: There is NOWHERE you can go where the Lord will not be with you.

13-16: From conception the Lord is with you. Also, these verses clearly demonstrate that the Lord our God is 100% pro-life from the moment of conception!

17-18: God’s thoughts are precious and great.

19-22: A prayer against the enemies of the God.

23-24: An invitation: search me, O God, and lead me.

There’s no escape from God!

He is omnipresent (present everywhere). From the uppermost parts of the sea to the depths of Sheol, “even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me” (v. 10).

He is omniscient (all-knowing). God has known everything about us from the time he intricately formed us in our mother’s womb.

Here David praises God’s omnipresence and omniscience. This gives him comfort and confidence that no matter what happens in this life, God knows everything and He’s ever-present. Through faith, David is certain that the Lord will never leave or forsake him.

There’s no escape from God! Is that good news or bad news?

For the enemies of God (vv. 19-22) – those who reject His word and refuse Jesus Christ’s atoning sacrifice – this is horrific news! There’s no escape. God knows all about you and there’s nowhere you cannot hide.

But for those whom God has called to be in a right relationship with Him – those who are justified by grace through faith in Jesus Christ – this is wonderful news!

Just as David did, you can be absolutely confident that God is FOR YOU. The promise is for you: wherever you are, whatever situation you find yourself in, even there God’s hand shall lead you and His right hand shall hold you.
